Description

due to a very old PC, I have to switch the resolution from 1920x1080 to 800x600
in order to be able to play with enough FPS.

before the switch to SDL2, it was ok,
now it's a mess.

it seems like the game is drawn with 800x600 resolution in a virtual screen of 1920x1020 with only 800x600 visible.
moving the mouse makes the 800x600 visible window to move across the 1920x1020 virtual screen.

switching to window mode makes the game to be playable

Sounds like SDL2 isn't using the XRandR extension. Without XRandR the X desktop can't be resized, so changing the resolution still leaves you with the original 1920x1020 desktop where you only see a section of it. If the mouse isn't locked to the game window (which IIRC relies on the XInput2 extension), then pushing to the side of the physical screen scrolls over the rest of the desktop.

some update.
now, it's playable.

in the "welcome menu", it is possible to scroll down and see the lower part of the 'big' screen.
but as soon as you play, the mouse is completly grabbed.

the bug, as reported first, is closed, in my opinion.
but there is still a little glitch.

No problem for me on Windows 7 64-bit.

Tested 640x480 fullscreen on:

0.31.0 Win 7 64-bit release
0.38.0 Win 7 64-bit release
0.39.0 Win 7 64-bit nightly ((64fdc5a21a))

with two monitors hooked up. Tried both dual monitor and single monitor settings.

Native (desktop) resolution was 1920x1080 (in dual monitor tests) and 1600x900 (in single monitor tests).

I still have a problem (whether the same as originally reported, I'm not sure). Native desktop is 1366x768; however, if I try running in full window mode in Widescreen 16:9 (1280x720) - which appears to be the default - the display is orientated left of centre and the left part of the screen is not visible. This could be my monitor (a cheap Acer x163w) as it has to reconfigure the display with this non-native resolution, but it doesn't seem to happen with other games I play in full screen mode, and I've never had this problem when playing videos.

However, I can confirm what R.D. reported that 800x600 works fine, as do all the other possible screen resolutions: the bug only seems to affect 1280x720.

That sounds different from the original report and also different to the update by Jörg Mayer.

What OS do you use? Part of the reason I commented here was I use a different OS (Windows 7) to the earlier reports (Linux and OS X), so I thought maybe the problem is unique to those OSes.

Sorry, forgot that info: Windows 10 64-bit.

I haven't got any issues with changing resolution on Windows 10 64-bit, 1366x768.

It seems to me that bug #976 got kind of mixed with this one on Linux. Hm.

  • Target version deleted (openmw-1.0)

Since this is a SDL-related issue, it's doubtful it will be "fixed" in a certain OpenMW release unless there can appear some sort of work-around from OpenMW side that could act as a fix.
