Not sure what the need is for fixing the widget height... I tested an undersized window - it automatically resized to accommodate the progress bar - unless that's not desirable?

That is not what I am seeing, but it is possible, that the layout problem is located somewhere else. If you open another subview (globals/gmsts or something), it should extend over the whole window, minus the part used by the operations widget. There might be something fishy with the docking widget code instead.

A list of steps to reproduce the problem might help - I tried opening the globals and verification subviews - both lived side-by-side and left an area for the operations widget below (albeit overly large). Resizing caused no obvious issues. Undersized the ops widget and it still resized to fit the progress bar. If anything, may want to fix the height to keep the ops widget dock from being too big...

Exactly. That's what I meant.

Can we reduce the height further? In its current state the UI has a small area at the bottom of the window that is unused most of the time.

Sure. I can make it half-height (or something similar), or just hide it whenever there is no active operation. Preference?

Hide it. There is not point in wasting space on something while it is not in use.
